Freehand Peonies: A Glimpse into the Enchanting World of Chinese Ink Painting

        On December 6th, 2025the freehand peony painting experience class, part of the library's calligraphy and painting workshop series, was successfully held in Room 510 library in campus 2, offering another excellent opportunity to experience traditional Chinese culture.


The keynote speaker, Mr. Qiang Guocai, expounded on the connotations of Chinese freehand flower-and-bird paintings. He demonstrated the entire process and key points of painting freehand peonies, pointed out common misconceptions, and showcased color-mixing techniques. Additionally, he gave on-site demonstrations on how to depict the flower crowns, petals, and leaves.

 

              While everyone was immersed in their creative work, Qiang patiently provided guidance and offered suggestions to each of them. As the event was drawing to a close, Qiang created several splendid freehand masterpieces on the spot and presented them  to the students, and all were filled with joy and excitement.

  


 


 

From the stunningly vibrant hues, we can perceive the unique charm of Oriental traditional aesthetics. These are not merely a series of paintings; they are cultural treasures of China that carry a millennia - old cultural heritage.
