CASHL houses a wealth of special collections focusing on the history of science and technology, philosophy of science and other related fields. It serves as a solid theoretical foundation for research on AI ethics, engineering sociology, the evolution of technologies and more.
1. What is CASHL?
CASHL stands for the China Academic Social Sciences and Humanities Library. Funded by special appropriations from the Ministry of Education in response to the development of humanities and social sciences as well as the construction of literature resources in universities, it aims to provide authoritative, reliable and abundant foreign-language literature support for teaching and research in philosophy and social sciences across China.
2. Disciplines Covered by CASHL
CASHL covers all disciplines of humanities and social sciences, including literature, art, history, archaeology, philosophy, politics, military science, economics, law, education, sociology, journalism and communication, management, psychology, library and information science, linguistics, area studies, as well as various interdisciplinary subjects.
3. Core Resources of CASHL
CASHL integrates high-quality collections from the libraries of 36 key universities nationwide.
Books: Over 3.7 million printed books and 2.9 million e-books.
Journals: 43,000 printed journals and 250,000 electronic journals.
Open Access Resources: 225 open-access databases worldwide.
Databases: More than 900 databases dedicated to humanities and social sciences.
4. Core Services of CASHL
Document Delivery
We provide photocopying and delivery services for foreign-language journal articles, selected book chapters, microforms and other documents included in CASHL collections.
Book Lending
Interlibrary loan service is available for foreign books collected by CASHL member university libraries and the Shanghai Library.
5. How to Access CASHL Resources
Step 1: Visit the official website: https://www.cashl.edu.cn/
Search for foreign journal tables of contents, book catalogs and other materials to locate the documents you need.
Step 2: Submit an application via email
Send detailed information of the required documents along with your personal information (name, school/department, student ID and contact number) to the designated email: wxcd@hit.edu.cn. Normally, the full-text electronic version will be delivered to your mailbox within 1 to 3 working days after submission.
CASHL launches preferential subsidy policies on an irregular basis throughout the year. Outside promotional periods, fees for access to CASHL resources by faculty and students of our university will be charged in accordance with the standards for collaborative member institutions.
