Theme: Nantou Ancient City
Step into Nantou Ancient City, and you open a splendid chapter of Shenzhen’s history. In 331 AD (Eastern Jin Dynasty), Dongguan Commandery and Bao’an County were established here. In 1573 AD (Ming Dynasty), Xin’an County was founded, governing the whole area of today’s Shenzhen and Hong Kong. Therefore, Nantou is hailed as the cultural root of Shenzhen and Hong Kong.
Historic sites including Wen’s Ancestral Hall, Dongguan Guild Hall and the ancient city wall carry forward noble patriotism, ancient business prosperity and coastal defense memories.
Having witnessed wars and urban renewal over centuries, the ancient city preserves Shenzhen’s profound cultural heritage. Today, revitalized with art galleries and creative stores, it perfectly blends traditional charm with modern vitality, becoming a living ancient city.
This week, we are telling Nantou’s stories to the world in English. Walk along the ancient stone paths, recite Song of Integrity, and discover the city’s past and present. Let Shenzhen’s millennium history be heard by the world.
